Article : 5 Simple Tips for Dealing with a Bad Boss

Imagine jumping from one lousy job to the other for years after studying your dream course and nursing all the dreams the human mind can conceive. Just about when the incessant interviews were beginning to become burdensome, you get a call from the HR manager of one of the largest multinational corporations in town and Bam, your dream job is on your laps. Since you are to resume in two days’, you borrow some money to do some shopping and look as dashing as you could possibly be while mentally sanding your already refined diction to make sure you resume at your best.

The day finally arrives and after the necessary training sessions, you get posted to a department. Being that you are required to arrive at 7:30 AM, you walk in twenty minutes earlier only to meet your supervisor already buried in paperwork. After offering the regular ‘good morning sir’, a contorted face stares up at you ‘Ehe, how may I help you?’ What a bad day you would wonder. Then mustering some more courage, you offer ‘My name is David, I am one of the new recruits…’ before the words could leave your mouth, your boss is already asking ‘Ehen, who asked for your name? Besides, is this when you are supposed to resume? All you children of nowadays, you don’t take anything serious anymore, do you think you are still in school?’ Letting out a provoking hiss, he returns to the paperwork, completely ignoring you. At that point, no matter how big the salary may be or the benefits attached, many questions will begin popping up in your head. Here are a few tips for dealing with this kind of boss should you meet one.
1. Leave no room for blame or a verbal attack.
Be cautious to resume at the right time, make a job of doing quality work and leave no chance at all for his trouble, else you may be inviting unwarranted problems that can potentially frustrate you, affect your performance and may even make management entertain the idea of relieving you of your services.
2. Sadism is contagious.
An adage says that no two people go mad at the same time. You must always understand that sadism is contagious and must never let yourself to be drawn into it just because your boss has decided not to be happy. Keep a happy disposition and remember that this too shall pass.
3. Never gripe about it at work.
Never fall into the temptation of being caught always discussing your supervisor with your co-workers as you don’t know where their loyalty lies. Ladies have more work to do here, many realize this only when it is too late.
4. Understand who your boss is.
Without arousing unwarranted attention, find out what could have caused his seemingly lack of happiness, as this will give you critical insight into how best the situation should be handled.
5. Control your reactions to your boss’ attitude.
On no occasion ever should you be caught dead exchanging words or challenging your sadistic boss. Many of those people can go to unimaginable lengths to get a revenge. Yes I know that the day may come when he may push things so hard that you cannot take it anymore but bursting out on him may not be the best option if you still need the job to pay the bills.
